Renecker's Palace Hillside Elk Burgers

Our hamburger patty is made from 100% ground elk, and nothing but that--no additives or fillers are used. These burgers can be cooked from frozen and be ready to eat in less than 10 minutes. Beside the buns and your favourite condiments, all that's needed is a little canola oil and some sea salt.

Note: Since no two cooking sources are usually alike, all cooking times are approximate.

Pan Fry Method

To pan fry, use a cast iron or stainless steel skillet.

Heat a small amount of canola oil in the skillet over medium high heat.

While the oil and the skillet are heating up, slightly defrost the burger patties in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds.
Lightly brush some canola oil on both sides of each burger patty.
Season with some sea salt.

Cook the patties for 1 1/2 minutes per side.
Reduce heat to medium; continue cooking for another 3 to 4 minutes per side.

Serve immediately.

Barbecue Method (Gas)

Light the barbecue and allow it to warm up for 15 minutes.
Set thermostat on medium-high for one side of the barbecue, and medium for the other.

Lightly brush some canola oil on both sides of the frozen patty.
Season with some sea salt.
Lightly oil the barbecue grill.

Sear the burger patties for 1 1/2 minutes per side on the medium-high heat side, cover closed.
Move to the medium-heat side and continue to cook for another 3 to 4 minutes per side, cover closed.

Serve immediately.

Note: If the burger patties have been thawed first in the refrigerator, the directions remain the same except less cooking time is required.
Reduce initial searing time to 1 minute per side.
Continue to cook over medium-heat for 2 to 2 1/2 minutes per side, or until done.
